Philippine maids pay high price

Almost 15 per cent of the Philippines' adult population, about eight million people, live and work overseas.<br /><br />The money they earn is vital to the economy, last year more than $17bn dollars was sent back in remittances.<br /><br />But the cost proves to be too high for some of the migrant workers that find themselves suffering the abuse at the hands of their employers.<br /><br />About two million Philippine workers reside in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, where the Philippine government says that it will investigate a recent case that led to the death of one maid.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas reports from Manila.
