Forty years ago, President Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines and his absolute rule over the country continued for another 14 years. Thousands of people were tortured and killed during that time, until he was forced out of power in 1986. But decades later, the victims and families of those who suffered under his rule continue to wait for compensation from the government. Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan reports from Manila.
